Among the breeders of horses [in Jamaica] are H. MCLEAN WOOD, Esq., JOHN WILSON DAVIS, Esq., and many others, in whose "breeding pens" may be always found between fifty and a hundred horses, whose prices range from £30 to £250 sterling.
There were many remarkable personalities in the racing community, apparently from its earliest days.
It is not easy to find information on some of these people, but even small snippets can help to bring them alive.
